I'm a Believer - The Monkees

"I'm a Believer" foi originalmente escrita por Neil Diamond, foi regravada em 1966 pela banda The Monkees se tornando por sete semanas consecutivas top na Billboard Hot 100. Recentemente o filme Shrek trouxe como trilha esta música na voz da banda Smash Mouth. 

A banda The Monkees foi criada por um anúncio em jornal pedindo "4 loucos entre 17 e 21 anos", em 65 pela rede de tv NBC para tentar rivalizar com os Beatles. Obviamente não chegou nem perto, mas fez muito sucesso. Entre seriado em Tv, gravações de LP e afins, os integrantes acabaram tendo que aprender a tocar de verdade para não ficarem bitolados ao estúdio. Em 2010, Neil Diamond gravou esta música em seu álbum Dream.

A Change is Gonna Come - Sam Cooke

Se a rainha do soul era Aretha Franklin, o rei foi Sam Cooke. Dentre muitos sucessos mundialmente conhecidos (Chain Gang, Wonderful World, etc.) "A Change is Gonna Come" ficou conhecida com a música do adeus de Sam Cooke, um ano após a gravação da música ele levou um tiro fatal na porta de seu Motel em Los Angeles, duas semanas depois a música foi lançada.

Indignado com a possibilidade de um branco ter escrito "Blowin' in the Wind" (Bob Dylan), esta foi a resposta de Sam Cooke, que na mesma época foi preso por se registrar em um motel para brancos e ainda perdeu seu filho de 18 meses que morreu afogado. Essa música também virou símbolo do movimento pelos direitos civis.
